The Rev. Elizabeth Lerner Maclay is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist, raised in Newton, Massachusetts, in a family with both Jewish and Catholic Roots. After finishing college she lived and worked for some years in Athens, Greece, where she found her call to ministry.
Liz attended Harvard Divinity School where she received her Master of Divinity degree in 1995. She stayed to do advanced work and received her second, Master of Theology, degree from Harvard in 1997. Her areas of academic interest are ancient Western religion, particularly ancient Greek religion, early Christianity and Hellenistic Judaism, as well as the history of women in religion.
Before coming to Silver Spring, Liz served UU parishes in Massachusetts and New York. She was called to be the Parish Minister of our church in the Spring of 2000. Vocationally Liz is interested in the strategies and challenge of growing the size, racial and cultural diversity of our churches while retaining their strong identities and sense of community. Liz leads worship most Sundays and is available for pastoral counseling to members and friends of UUCSS. She lives with her husband, Tim Maclay, and they share Tim’s two wonderful children and Liz’s flat-coated retriever, Quinobequin.
