Collective Responsibility

As UU’s with awareness of our interdependence, we reflect on the ways we can either help create an environment for wellbeing and positive choices, or we can contribute to an environment of injury. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel wrote: “…morally speaking, there is no limit to the concern one must feel for the suffering of human beings, that indifference to evil is worse than evil itself, that in a free society, some are guilty, but all are responsible.” As the Jewish High Holidays continue, we draw wisdom from the observance of Yom Kippur and the spiritual practice of taking responsibility.
