TransCanada wants to build a fracked-gas pipeline underneath Potomac River and C&O Canal. The purpose of the pipeline is to deliver gas to the new Procter & Gamble facility in Berkeley County, WV; it won’t benefit Marylanders in any way. There is concern about spills and consequent contamination of upstream water sources. The initial TransCanada Keystone I pipeline had 14 spills in its first year and the Keystone XL pipeline in South Dakota spilled over 210,000 gallons of oil on Nov. 16 this year, making it one of the 20 largest onshore spills since 2010.
