Green Sanctuary is inviting you to join members of our committee in lobbying MD legislators face-to-face on important climate change bills in Annapolis. Two major opportunities are coming up in February.
1. The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) is organizing a Lobby Night on President’s Day, Feb 17th, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm
What: Join us to talk with your legislators about the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act, a climate test for MD’s Public Service Commission, and removing incineration from the state’s Portfolio Standard.
Where: Convene at Asbury United Methodist Church (87 West St, Annapolis, 21401), then head to the General Assembly Office Buildings to meet with legislators.
Need a ride or can you offer space in your car? Carpool to reduce emissions. Talk with Doneby Smith (donebys@gmail.com) or Bruce McConachie (bamcco@pitt.edu) about the bills you can lobby for and carpooling to get to Annapolis.
2. The Sierra Club is lobbying on 4 climate-related bills the week after that, on Feb 24.
What: bills for a Just transition off of coal, funding public transit, a ban on plastic bags, and climate-based decision making for MD’s Public Service Commission.
Where: In Annapolis, place and time TBA.
Carpooling from UUCSS is possible if enough UUCSS members want to go. Talk with Bruce McConachie if interested.
Join us in Annapolis,
Your Green Sanctuary Committee
